When the California Legislature is embroiled in another budget battle that could have a catastrophic economic impact on many, it is difficult to witness brazen arrogance exhibited by one of its elected officials. But thanks to YouTube, Sen. Pat Wiggins-D just had her “macaca” moment.
This week, I lost a dear friend and family member. My one selfless friend in an often-selfish world is gone. Our dog Sheba—a German Shepherd/Golden Retriever mix—after a long illness, had to be put down. Sheba exemplified the traits of both breeds.
It was Dante who said, “The hottest places in hell are reserved for those who in a period of moral crises maintain their neutrality.” Over the centuries it has been widely assumed that Dante was referring to the individual and not the corporation.
It has been 22 years since the California Legislature passed a budget before the constitutionally mandated deadline. Added to this year’s annual drama, lawmakers must close a $15.2 billion shortfall.
