In roughly 5 weeks Cuba will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of its revolution. On January 1 1959, Cuba went from a dictatorship palatable to the United States in Fulgencio Batista to one that has been a nagging thorn in every president's side since Eisenhower in Fidel Castro. |

This marks the second time I've written about Troy Davis. Davis, who sits on Georgia's death row, has become an international celebrity and a prime example of why the death penalty must be eliminated. On Monday, Davis was schedule to die but received his third stay of execution in slightly more than a year. With more than 300,000 letters sent globally in support of Davis, rallies were recently held from Atlanta to Seattle, New York to Paris and Milan with supporters wearing T-shirts and holding signs that read, "I am Troy Davis." |

The epilogue for most losing campaigns is to ascertain the reasons for defeat. This process can range from honest self-reflection to delusional rationalization. Opponents of Proposition 8 have been forced to write this closing section detailing the reasons for its fate. The most popular finger pointing has been directed toward the African American community. How can a group so tied to the legacy of civil rights in this country stand at the citadel of injustice? |
